Course Descriptions
Animation and Interactive Media Courses
Game Design and Development
Video games produce more revenue than modern movies and are gaining in popularity not only as an entertainment vehicle but for education and training purposes. The coursework offers students the opportunity to explore many facets of the video game industry including art, programming logic, animation, storytelling, game design 2D and 3D interactive environments, software development and problem solving skills.
Students will have hands-on experience creating and modifying their own 2D and 3D video games. Using their creativity and problem solving skills, students will learn to design, create, test and debug video games. Students will also explore game genres, history, elements, and development for virtual reality.
District transportation is provided to the Center for Academic Achievement. Credit may be applied toward the minimum fine arts graduation requirement. This course may qualify for JCCC advanced standing credit.
3D Modeling and Animation
Advertising, movies, video games, architecture, engineering, medical science, law enforcement and other industries all need 3D animators. The 3D Modeling and Animation courses are designed to provide the student with an introduction to the skills needed to pursue a career in this field.
3D modeling and animation introduces students to the tools and skills needed to create cutting edge three-dimensional digital animations and visualizations. Students will model objects and characters, create realistic textures and motion graphics, use sound and advanced animation techniques to create visual environments, characters and stories. Students will learn advanced virtual lighting, virtual camera work, character rigging, sound creation, special effects, and rendering techniques. Students will also explore the creation of 3D environments in virtual reality.

2D Animation
This course emphasizes the development of visual creativity expressed through drawing and storytelling with the aid of technology. Using industry-standard graphics software and equipment, students will develop digitally-generated 2D animations. Students will study the principles of animation, character and story development, control and movement management through frame-by-frame animation and sound creation and editing techniques.
Students in this course also study the fundamentals of motion graphics. They will develop technical skills to apply animation principles and design techniques to create stunning titles, logos, special effects and motion graphics using a green screen and their own imagination and creativity.
